FAQs

Customizations & Restorations

  1. Will you accept any custom order?
I welcome almost any design request!  If it is beyond my knowledge, I will express that during the inquiry phase.

  2. What is the custom order process?
Reach out via email, contact form or Instagram DM - let me know your idea, size and color palette preferences. I will create a design mockup and send over for review. We will finalize details (colors/size) from there. I will provide an appropriate timeline for order turnaround as well.

  3. Do you do restorations/repairs?
Yes, I can work with you on restorations for work that I can bring to my studio.  At this time, I do not offer in situ (on-site) repairs for works attached to homes or buildings.  Please fill out the contact form to start the process.

Shipping & Returns

  1. Where do you ship?
    Worldwide!

  2. What if my stained glass is damaged during shipping?
I take great care to package your item securely. However, if damages do occur during shipping please contact me within 48 hours of delivery and include a description and a picture of the damage. From there, we can coordinate a replacement or a refund.

If your item is damaged upon arrival you must save the packaging in order to receive a refund. Each item is shipped with insurance, and the shipping carrier may require photos of the packaging in order to process the claim.

Finally, glassfare is not responsible for any damage that occurs after the item has been delivered.

Returns & Exchanges

  1. Do you offer returns and exchanges?
As each piece is one of a kind, handmade, and carefully prepared and packaged before being sent out, glassfare does not offer returns or exchanges and all sales are final.

Care and Maintenance

  1. How do I clean stained glass?
Always remove your glass from its hanging position before cleaning to avoid any tragic mishaps. Q-tips and soft toothbrushes work great for cleaning the crevices.  Always handle with extra care!

For a quick clean, gently dust with a soft, clean cloth. For a deeper clean, use an ammonia-free glass cleaner with a soft, clean cloth.  Spray the cloth, then wipe. Do not spray the stained glass directly.

DO NOT scrub with any textured material that could scratch the glass.  DO NOT use water.  DO NOT use any harsh chemicals or cleaners with abrasive qualities.

  2. How often should I clean my stained glass piece?
Clean as needed, depending on dust accumulation, usually every few months.

  3. Should I polish the metal came (lead or zinc)?
If the piece has a metal frame, you can use a gentle polish specifically for that metal, but be cautious not to damage the glass or patina.

  4. How do I maintain the patina on my stained glass?
Avoid scrubbing; just wipe gently with a clean cloth to preserve the finish.

Installation and Display

  1. How should I hang my stained glass piece?
Use sturdy chains or wires attached to secure hooks within a window frame/window sill. Do not use suction cups as the temperature of the window and weight of the art are too high of variables for long term security. Avoid weak adhesives or inadequate hardware.

  2. Where is the best place to display stained glass?
Near a window for optimal light effects, but avoid prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading over time.

  3. Can I install stained glass in my windows?
Yes, but it’s best done by a professional to ensure proper fit and insulation.

Repairs and Longevity

  1. What should I do if a piece of glass breaks?
If you are local to New England, contact me to see our options.  If you are outside of New England, please consider contacting a local professional stained glass artist or restorer in your area to repair the damage. Avoid DIY fixes, as they can worsen the damage.

  2. How long will the solder or lead came last?
With proper care, stained glass can last decades or even centuries. Regular inspection for wear or corrosion is key.
